It was back to Ryman League action the following Saturday, when we won 2-1 away to HORSHAM YMCA. For the second game in a row, we conceded a penalty goal in the sixth minute. Matt Simpson was the scorer, following a rash challenge by Sebastian Schoburgh on James Grant just inside the box. Despite going on to enjoy most of the play, we failed to score in the first-half. A diving header by debutant defender Marc Cumberbatch from Seb Schoburgh's 11th minute comer rattled the crossbar. Later, Stanley Muguo broke up an attack and released Shawn Beveney through the middle, but Shawn delayed his shot and defender Tom White got back to deflect the ball behind. After the interval, we really got on top and forced a succession of comers. A back post header from Marc Cumberbatch was scrambled behind, then in the 53rd minute we finally equalised. Shayne Mangodza stole in on the blind side to meet Seb Schoburgh's low right-wing comer and his volley was too accurate for the 'keeper and his covering defenders on the goal-line. In the 69th minute, Shawn Beveney scored what proved to be the winner. An excellent run by Steve May resulted in yet another corner and although Seb Schoburgh's flag-kick from the right cleared the heads of friend and foe alike, our skipper retrieved the ball at the back of the box on the left, turned inside an opponent and from 15 yards hit a fierce right-foot shot across the 'keeper and into the far top corner. We could have had more goals, but Billy Chattaway (twice) and Stanley Muguo were denied by 'keeper Ken Westoby. Sadly, a good afternoon's work was tarnished deep into stoppage time when Meshach Nugent was sent off for raising his hands to an opponent after being fouled.
