This game proved a tough test on a searingly hot afternoon on the East Coast, the opposition provided by one of the Premier Division's strongest sides and one of the potential frontrunners for promotion into the regional Conference at the end of this coming campaign. During a goalless first half, Dulwich Hamlet proved able opponents for their loftier opponents, competing gamely and creating as many if not more clear-cut chances than the Trawlerboys. That it remained scoreless at the break was as much a credit to some top-drawer goalkeeping most notably from the Hamlet's Phil Wilson who denied the hosts time and again with a bucket load of smart saves. That said though Dulwich never seemed at sea, competed in every quarter and sticking to the Rose Credo of eye-catching quick passes and incisive wing raiding. On more fortunate days they might have been blessed with a spot kick or two as some penalty area grappling when unnoticed by the man in black for whom the game seemed to have come a little too soon after the excess of a seaside summer.

However, the second half was a horse of different colour as Lowestoft Town kicked it up a notch, a brace of goals, early and late in the half settling the encounter in their favour stepped up a gear, scoring after 51 and 69 minutes.

Dulwich had barely settled into their stride when the Trawlerboys landed their first catch, a goal out of the blue as a deep in swinging cross wobbled in from the left, Wilson seeming to lose the flight of the ball in the sun as a burly opponent beat him to it and headed home.

Though Ellis Green was giving his full back opponent a torrid time on the left flank, Dulwich come not find the route to an equaliser and midway through the half they fell further behind. The goal had a ninety-nine feel about, a large creamy dollop of good fortune, all that was missing was the insertion of the chocolate Flake. Having lost possession of the ball mere moment earlier in tame midfield tussle, Dulwich were penetrated as a seemingly innocuous dabber from the brink of the area took a hefty deflection to leave Wilson floundering.

Though battled manfully on deep into the dying embers of the afternoon, Lowestoft keep their nets dry whilst Wilson continued to distinguish himself with a succession of superb saves, one of which nearly defied explanation as a point blank block at the back stick thwarted the hosts not once but twice in the blink of an eye as a third goal seemed an inevitability.
