The following Tuesday, we made the long journey to Suffolk to play LOWESTOFT TOWN In the fourth round of the Alan Boon (League) Cup. Both managers made several changes, but it was still a lively and entertaining contest with Lowestoft emerging as winners by the only goal. We had the better of the early exchanges and in the 17th minute, a header from Lewis Gonsalves was cleared off the goal line by defender Jack Smith. Shortly afterwards, Kevin James shot wide after being neatly set up by Frankie Sawyer. The home side came more into the game after this and we had a couple of close shaves; firstly a Stuart Ainsley corner flashed across the face of our goal, then, a few minutes later, Ebus Onuchukwu was clean through on goal but he delayed his shot and Phil Wilson managed to grab the ball off his feet. As half-time approached, we created another chance ourselves, but Lowestoft 'keeper Shaun Phillips stuck out a leg to block a low shot from Dean
Carpenter. Lowestoft gained the upper hand after the Interval as our level of performance fell away. Phil Wilson saved well at the second attempt from Josh Knights' long-range effort, and then Chris Henderson shot narrowly over the bar from 25 yards. It was Henderson who later grabbed the winning goal. There was more than a suspicion of offside as he received from Ainsley in the 72nd minute and fired past Phil Wilson, but there was no flag and the goal stood. We rallied strongly in the closing stages and might well have snatched an equaliser. Ishmail Kamara shot narrowly over the bar, then, in the last minute of normal time, we gained a penalty when Knights handled a cross from Dean Carpenter. Unfortunately, Andre Costa's spot-kick was too close to Phillips who blocked diving low to his right and a defender quickly cleared the rebound. Even in added time we had a chance to force a penalty shoot-out, but Phillips again came to his side's rescue, saving smartly from Ishmail Kamara.
