We met WALTON & HERSHAM again the following Tuesday, this time at their Stompond Lane ground In the second round of the Championship Manager Cup, and once more we were defeated, on this occasion by the odd goal in three. The first-half was a fairly quiet affair with little goalmouth action. Walton's Elliott Brathwaite went close with a glancing header following a free-kick, whilst at the other end Alim Sesay headed just over the bar from Junior Kadi's cross. Then, almost on the stroke of half-time, the Swans opened the scoring. Chris O'Flaherty skipped past Junior Kadi on the left wing and his high cross to the far post was expertly nodded in by Kevin Lock. The same player scored again two minutes into the second-half to complete his second double against us inside four days. Will Jenkins got the better of Yinka Salami on the right and moved into the box before hitting a low drive towards goal. Phil Wilson spread himself well to block the shot, but the rebound bounced up conveniently for Lock to head into the net. After that, we came more Into the game, Indeed we were on top for the rest of the half. Alex Tiesse had his shot blocked after some neat approach play by Dean Carpenter and Gavin Rose, then in the 84th minute we finally reduced the arrears. Walton's defence got in a bit of a muddle and Sol Pinnock shook off the last man to crash a rising shot past Steve Windegaard. Two minutes from time, we might have had a penalty when Luke Hickie went past his marker and appeared to be brought down in the box; unfortunately, the referee thought otherwise and with it went our hopes of forcing extra-time.
